What do you think Mom?

I've been playing around this weekend with my Cameo.  I felt a bit like a school teacher because I've been cutting things to go on a giant cork board at work.  I took it in today, but then completely forgot to take a picture.  Maybe tomorrow.  In the meantime, I want to share a different project I'm working on.  When we got my Mom's car, she had to give up her Mickey "tattoos" in the window.  So on Friday night when I was putting the eyes on my car, I took a picture of the Mickeys in the side windows.

I wasn't sure if I could make it work, but a little Photoshop and Inkscape and then tonight a little time on the Cameo and voila:

What do you think Mom?   Will it get the job done?

Making it my own

Last weekend I watched as my car drove away without me forever.  Yep, it's all over.  My first brand new car is no longer mine after 10 years of it being my baby.  But I know it was the right decision to sell it and buy my Mom's car.  While my car was perfect when I was young and single, Mom's car is a better fit for us now.  But I've been struggling with finding a new normal with the new car.  Even though we've been driving it for nearly a month now, it still feels like "Mom's car."  I've been thinking about what I need to do to make it feel more like my own.  Hubby suggested that I cut another of the Tony Stewart design I had made for the other car, but that just doesn't feel right for this car.  I've been thinking about it for a long time now and sitting at the Winterhawks' game last night when I looked up at the electronic board circling the arena.
It had the Hawk eyes logo all the way around and it suddenly hit me that the eyes would be a good car "tattoo."  It just seemed right.  So tonight I looked online and discovered that the Hawks don't sell anything even remotely close (nor can I get a replacement license plate holder for the one that broke or a t-shirt as the Western Conference Champions - sigh).  So I found a picture of the eyes and made my own.  While I'm pretty happy with how the eyes turned out, I'm still not sure it's quite right.  But, for now, I'm just going to live with it and see how it feels.

Black Friday...

Yes, that's right, I'm already anticipating the hunt so I thought what better than to do a layout about my favorite shopping day of the year? I had snapped these pictures of my sister-in-law's car during a previous Black Friday shopping trip and when Walgreens gave out free prints recently, I added these pictures to my cart. Last month, DCWV ran a sketch challenge that I didn't participate in but I did love the sketch. It was perfect for this layout. My background paper is from the Luxury Stack by DCWV. The purple is from the Shimmer Stack and the small pink frame is from daisyd's Autumn Collection.

Sigh... good memories. Well there's only seven more months to go to new ones!

New car layout

It's been a long wait for it to get here, but last week we finally had the pleasure of going with my parents to pick up their new car. During the LONG process of picking it up, we got the chance to sneak outside and check it out. I snapped this picture with my phone and posted it to FB, getting to be the one who spread the good news. I've been playing with this layout for days. The layout comes from Creative Scrappers. I've been playing with the paper for days and finally settled on these ones from the Tradewinds Stack by DCWV with the grey background from the Neutral Stack. The flowers were cut from a design from the Silhouette Design Studio. I deleted a lot of the flower to get to the simple outline.

I just love this picture. Too bad that the picture of the picture didn't turn out as good as the original.

Another Mojo Monday card

I had a little free time tonight while listening to the Winterhawks win their playoff game tonight so I played along with the Mojo Monday sketch. I love this little paper magnolia from the Silhouette Design Studio. It's super easy to make, especially when I opt to omit the paper center since it can sometimes be a little tricky to make the three points line up the three portions of the stamen.

Mojo Monday - Birthday card

I found this cute little flower on the Silhouette Design Studio on Friday night, so when I saw this week's Mojo Monday sketch, I knew it was perfect. The card didn't quite come out like I had imagined, but I'm happy enough with at anyway.

Another Card to Share

I have another card to share. This one is super simple, but I needed something a little somber, but I wasn't really in the mood for black. My good friend Glenda had to have her beloved dog Luke put to sleep. I know what she's going through in that five and half years ago I had to do the same to my beloved McKenzie. While I knew it was the right thing for him, it didn't make losing him any easier and now she's going through the same thing.

It so hard to lose them, but I'd rather live through the pain than live without them at all. So here's my super simple sympathy card from my scraps drawer.

Card Making Frenzy

I've been in a card making frenzy these last couple of days. I read about the new baby for Marley's parents on Madison's Funky Cards blog and just couldn't help but send them a congratulations card. But, because I was short on time to design one, I took the easy route and downloaded this adorable one from the Silhouette Design Studio. I loved the card and figured it would make a great base for future cards as well. I did have to make just one change. Instead of cutting out the hubcaps on the truck, I used Perfect Pearls instead.
I just love, love, love my Cameo and the Silhouette Design Studio!

Happy Birthday Sis!

Today is my sister's birthday and I'm so excited for her. We have a little shopping trip planned later this week and I'm really looking forward to it. I know she's going to find some great stuff. Speaking of great stuff, I'm so excited because my box from Oh My Crafts should be here any day now. Not that I really need anything new, but I just couldn't pass up the deal they had last week on the Making Memories trimmer. It will be my third. The first died after five years when I tried to cut something too thick for it. My second one is going on it's second year and still works beautifully, although I had a little moment of panic over the weekend when it didn't make the nice clean cuts I was used to. Instead I got the cuts I used to get with my old trimmers where a little ragged that used to cue me in that I needed a new blade (boy did I go through a lot of blades back then - trust me the extra cost for this trimmer is well worth not having to buy lots of blades). Since this trimmer never needs a new blade, I wasn't quite sure what was wrong. I pulled it apart and found some stray pieces of paper stuck in the cutter. I cleaned out the tracks and used a little wax paper to wax down the bar. Once it was all put back together, it cut like a dream again. Nice crisp clean cuts. Love, love, love this cutter. So now I'll have a new one in pink, plus a number of other new goodies too...

In the meantime, I want to share the card I made for last month's I Feel the Love Project. I was really late to finish it, which is why I did this month's card so early.

I had fun with this one though. The kite is a download from the Silhouette Design Store. I just love that place. At the end of the year last year, they ran a special on the monthly subscription. I bought the smallest one and I still cannot believe how much I can buy each month. Every time I have an idea for a project, I just browse through the library to see what fits my idea. I buy what I need, or what I think I might use. Even with all that, at the end of the month, I usually still have some credit left over and I get to do a little downloading of just things that caught my eye with no project in mind. It really was a great deal.

Anyhow, the kite comes with four clouds, but I opted to use just the three smallest ones. I ran them through the Xyron and flocked them to give them that soft look. After I took the picture, I added a few Stickles just because it still looked like it needed "something."
Yet another card from my scraps bin, which, strangely enough, never looks like I've even put a dent in it no matter how many project I make with paper from it.

I Feel the Love - April

It's time for another I Feel the Love Project card. I've missed a couple months and did last month's at the last minute, so I thought I would get this month's done right away. Emily is a girl after my own heart with her love of cats so I decided to use my Chewie stamp. I had a completed, colored one pinned on my inspiration board in my craft room for months and decided this was the perfect project for it. Since Emily's favorite colors are pink and purple, I stuck with those colors. I found this pink leopard ribbon in my drawer and decided it was perfect. I used sketch # 55 from Sketch and Stash for a template. The ribbon slide and paw print inside it are both out of the Silhouette Design Studio store. I needed something for the background though. It's been a while since I used an embossing folder so I drug out my stash. I narrowed it down to two: the cheetah print and a swirly one that I like a lot. I actually did both backgrounds so I could see if cheetah ribbon on cheetah background would be too much. Seeing it in person convinced it was fine. After that, the card went together in a snap.

So break out your supplies and join us in sending cards to put a smile on Emily's face.

Freshly Made Sketches Inspired Birthday Card

Woohoo, other than laundry, I have a whole day to myself in my craft room. But wouldn't you know it, I really couldn't get inspired to make much. Perhaps I should have turned off the TV, but I'm still trying to get caught up on Amazing Race and read through the blogs I haven't been able to keep up with either. Then I saw Freshly Made Sketches' sketch #28 and started thinking. I have this stamp set from Lil Davis Designs made by Fiskars called Crillon Filigree that I thought would make a really nice background. So stamped my own design on the paper.

But I still needed something else. The sentiment didn't stand out enough against the patterned paper, so I added a little extra to make it pop and then was stumped about what to do on the pink. On Friday night, I had downloaded this cute magnolia for the Silhouette from the Silhouette Design Studio and cut it out. It was darn cute but near impossible to make at the size I needed for the card. However, when I dropped out the center and replaced it with this cute Eye Candy gem, it was perfect.

So hop on over to Freshly Made Sketches and come up with your own interpretation of this week's sketch.
